Kids in Need of Nature Hikes and the Orange County Hiking Club helps abandoned or abused kids connect with nature -- and with caring adult mentors. Studies show that even a small amount of positive adult attention can make a big difference in the life of a child, so I'm excited to have the opportunity to help them touch the lives of many young people in the years to come! If you've ever walked down Broadway in Nashville, you've probably seen Mike play. I'm excited to work with him on funding for a school tour about the history of southern music. He's also doing an online historical tour of Nashville, complete with live soundtrack on his mandolin! Check them out on YouTube. There are 30+ episodes, and you can see the first one here.
Also -- In 2009, the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt partnered with Glencliff High School, an incredibly ethnically diverse school of 1500 students located in South Nashville, to improve their school’s health and wellness. Near the end of the school year, students and science teachers suggested that a school garden may serve as a more sustainable way to improve nutrition and physical activity among the students and staff members. Help them keep this garden going by going here and voting for their garden to receive a $5,000 grant!
